This exceedingly rare 12 light chandelier is a formidable piece of lighting history, suitable for the keen collector, or the buyer with the most discerning of tastes. Originating in Venice, Italy, in the late 1800's, this exquisite piece started life as a Candolier for the French export market. Being pre-electricity, (as is demonstrated by the absence of a conventional suspension rod with a cavity for electrical wires) this piece greatly pre-dates all of the Egyptian copies more commonly seen in countries such as Australia, unsurpassed in quality and craftmanship with its completely handmade frame, handcut prisms, and handblown glass garlands. Electrified in the 1920's/30's, the complete electrical conversion was undertaken flawlessly.
